Long Road to Nowhere

So I had to drive in to Boston today to do a book buy. Driving to Boston is a straight shot on the Mass Turnpike- 2 hours from our door to downtown. Except this morning while I was driving east a tanker carrying liquid methane jacknifed and rolled over about 30 miles ahead of me. Apparently the thing about liquid methane is that if a tanker-full of it goes off, all you are left with is a blackened hole the size of Ohio. So they shut the entire road in both directions for 20 miles, trapping me, and about 20,000 other folks, between exits... and once we finally crawled off, the alternate roads were obviously all backed up as well. Long story short- a 2-hour drive took 6 and a half hours. When I started back the Pike was still closed (they finally opened it about 6:30 this evening), but I took a good alternate route that only about half the commuters also took, and it only took 3 hours to get home. Total road time- 9.5 hours.

Oh yeah, I bought the books. Total time required for book buy: 45 minutes.

I need another beer. Not as many as that tanker driver though... I cannot imagine the thoughts that would go through your head if you were driving a truck with highly explosive cargo and you realized you were going to crash... lots of lucky folks out there tonight. All I got was delayed, no big deal.
