Fridays-

There's a new "State of Denial" post up at Wand of Wonder. This week has been tough for our Hellish Minion...

-

Lots of food for thought in the news today. This one is pretty cool-

"Russian President Vladimir Putin could run for re-election in next year's presidential vote if he resigns early to get around a ban on serving three consecutive terms, a lobbyist close to the Kremlin has revealed..."

That clever Putey-Pute. You have to believe George and Dik are green with envy at that one.

Students here at the University of Massachusetts are holding a two-day "strike", complete with mass-marches to the UMass President's office, blocking roads, and so on. Now, you are all asking, which issue in today's news has the students so outraged that they are getting up off their bums and marching in the streets? Illegal wars? Microwaving the Planet? An out-of-control Executive Branch that threatens the Consitution? Um... no. They're upset that student fees were hiked again.

Have I mentioned lately how lame and self-centered most college students are these days?

Memo to self: Ask Barry Bonds to take me off his speed dial.

There's a new mutant variant of the Common Cold going around that kills you. Call me crazy, but sometimes I just get the feeling that the Planet is trying to off us all.

-

In the meantime though, Eva Marie Saint hopes that everyone will try to have a great weekend!

I think Mother Earth might feel like she's been put in a "kill or be killed" situation.

Man, I had forgotten how lovely Eva Marie Saint was. Thanks for the reminder!

Have a great weekend, CC!

Mother Earth has all the plastic she needs now, so she no longer needs us

I actually thought the Mutant Cold trying to kill us all WAS Barry Bonds.

My mistake.

Sara- yeah, I think Mother Earth is about to do a giant sneeze and get rid of some mucus...

Glad to bring you E.M-S. Maybe I'll watch North by Northwest again tonight.

Malach- yes, tossed aside like a used banana skin.

Moooog- No, it's Michael Vick. Barry's just a carrier.

we had a strike at the U of Minnesota not too long ago, but it was the workers pissed off because they weren't being paid enough.

but yeah, your college protest is just another example of my generations apathy... i think if the war had something to do with our ipods or xboxs there would be riots at campuses all over.

Cyclone in Bangladesh. Earthquake in Chile. Mutant viruses taking over. Yep, old Mother Earth is just one good shake away from ridding herself of the fleas on her back.

I think I have that mutated cold. Well either that, or I have a cold that is mutating me...or is that mutilating? Either way, it ain't right.

Mother Earth is about to blow her cork with that volcano in Indonesia too. Of course if that one blows hard enough, it could bring the whole global warming controversy to an end.

a.- reinstate the draft, no deferments. scare the fuck out of these jerkoffs. that should motivate them.
B.-Putin is a bad, bad man. Funny George Bush couldn't see that when he saw his "soul" in his eyes.
C.-Eva marie Saint. Nice. I coulda been a contender!

There's nothing the earth could do to us that we don't deserve six times over. Still... killer cold virus. That's just harsh.

T-Bird: Yes, X-Boxes, there's a cause for them to rally 'round.

Kerstin & Mike: Somedays I just feel like we're bugs on the windshield of Life.

Velvet-Man: Yes, a draft would do wonders for young folks' attention spans. I'm more and more convinced that what George saw in Putin's eyes was just his own reflection.

Phoebe: It does seem a little over the top. And here I was convinced that flesh-eating bacteria were gong to kill us all.

If the Common Cold has mutated into something else, is it still the Common Cold?

We all need to pray to Spongebob the Earthly incarnated son of the Giant Spaghetti Monster.

Oh don't scare me like that! I hate getting sick.

Please say a Mutant Flu isn't so.

Forrest Proper said...

Bruce: I suppose it isn't the Common Cold anymore. It's the DeathCold~!

PrePonderings: No, no, not the flu, as in Bird Flu; the cold, as in the thing we can't cure even tho we can send a man to the moon.

I remember teaching in the late 60s/early 70s when students had serious issues in mind. We had train tracks that split the small college town and the tracks came through an edge of campus. A bunch of our students dressed as Indians and shot rubber arrows at one of the trains crossing campus. Serious stuff. Some of the same students streaked to the presidents house that night.

HM: I LOVE it. You keep up the spirit!! And, welcome to MMB, and y'all come back now!

Those Russians aren't as dumb as you think they are. George is probably looking for a loophole right now. He can't use the "hanging chad" trick again.....

Commander Zaius said...

Sirdar please don't scare me like that. Its bad enough that Bush saw something he liked in Putin's eye and called Musharraf a good guy of some sort. Loopholes? Several months ago there was some story that the government had done something to make it easier to declare martial law or a state of emergency.

Forrest Proper said...

Sirdar: yes, I never underestimate Dik & Co.

Beach Bum: My hope is that since they didn't do it in 2004, it means they won't do it at all. Cross your fingers.

Hm, streaking was popular when I was in school (not that I ever did it, no not me). The really sad part about it is that now if somebody gets caught streaking they'll be arrested and labeled a sex offender and have to be on a list for the rest of their lives. Christ, how did we let it get to this point?

Forrest Proper said...

Bruce- sigh, yes, we've certainly gone off the deep end on both sides of the pool. All we can do is hope that a little sanity prevails.

Beach Bum see HERE. The Bush administration had sought the increased authority, saying the confusion over state vs. federal control of the military during Hurricane Katrina could have been avoided with a clearer statute, although the National Guard commander, Lt. Gen. H. Steven Blum, testified in April that the new law would not have helped the response to that crisis.

Can you blame the Planet? Enough is enough.
