Random Thoughts on a Rainy Monday-

There's been a lot of talk about the Rev. Jeremiah Wright lately. I'll come right out and say, I like the guy, not only for his skills as an orator, but for his willingness to talk Truth to Power. For anyone who has paid attention to the story but not yet seen the full sermon in question, it's probably worth 9 minutes of your time to watch it here-

I spent several hours one day on You-Tube watching a variety of sermons he's given, and he's quite thoughtful and compelling-

So there it is. I could be wrong, but as he said today, in answer to a rather tired question about his patriotism, "I served six years in the military. Does that make me patriotic? How many years did Cheney serve?"

and so it goes.

I'm right with you Colonel Rev. Wright's ability to talk straight I believe scares the usual suspects who promote the semi-fascist dog pack patriotism that seems to be the standard right now. My worry is that as much as people might like Obama because of the hope he inspires just as many would use Rev. Wright's speeches to destroy Obama. I guess what I'm saying is that a good many Americans are just Proles waiting for the media to make up their minds.

Geez, Popey- is that a Louisville Slugger in your pocket, or...???

Beach Bum- oops, didn't see you there. Yeah, sound bites are going to destroy this country.

You are so right, CC and I'm afraid the Beach Bum is right too. (Nice to see the speach in its entirety.)

I wish they would post some soundbites of some other preachers for comparisons. I've heard a lot of hypocritical bullshit come out of preachers' mouths.

Sara: Nice to see you back in the bloggysfear!

HungryMo: If FauxNews spent half the time running soundbites of John McCain's pal the Rev. Hagee (who views the Catholic Church as the whore of Satan) as they have of Rev. Wright, John McCain would be back in Arizona flipping patties at the local BurgerBlitz by now.

Malach is going to become a preacher! I can do anything!

We Trust in Malach!!

I FEEL THE POWER!!!!

Dead right on Wright, Colonel.

I watched Wright on Moyers, and I thought it was perfect when he said those soundbites were not a failure to communicate. They communicated exactly what the people who strung them together wanted them to communicate. And what they wanted to communicate was a lie and a smear.

I can't stand the guy. He's David Duke in a MooMoo.

He's certainly opened my eyes to race relations in America. Now it is okay for me to make fun of the way black people talk. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Really. Seriously. MLK gets shot dead and we are left with this pathetic bat shit crazy mother fucker? God has a sense of humor, but man, he has taken this a bit far.

"God has a sense of humor"

Amen! Anne Coulter is living proof of that.

Either that or God really, REALLY hates us.

I can honestly say I have never watched a preacher on YouTube. And cannot watch this one at work but they all seem to be a little 'sketchy'... but you are a smart man Mr. Colonel so I'll take your word for it!

Happy Tuesday to you!!!

Excellent post Col.! You nailed it simply and clearly. I wish I could do that.
Rev. Wright was pretty much right on in everything he said.
When are people going to learn that every thing they say will possibly be dissected, picked apart, put back together and used against them.

the horror.

I've got to back track and say whatever Rev. Wright said at the National Press Club may have crossed the line. I'll need to hear the speech but whenever I got a chance to see some news that was all the talking heads were speaking on. Second hand I'm hearing he went on some crazy rant about several subjects.

Kelly: Well, thanks, and Happy Tuesday!

SGH: Jus watched the Press Club thing- oe could just as easily take sound bites and make him sound like the most serene, pacific guy in the world, which is a lot closer to the truth than hat FauxNews is going to show tonight.

Beach: I just finished watching the entire National Press Club speech & Q&A session on You-Tube, and was more impressed by the rudeness/stupidness of the questions than outraged at anything Wright said. I thought he handled himself very well.

Faux News. Heh. I like it.

As for Rev Wright, well, he may hit a few out of the field occasionally, but religious rhetoric is as questionable as political 'truth' in my opinion.

And the mudslinging begins...or at least goes into full tilt now. Yay! Finally a real sport to watch.

Thanks for your comments about Dr. Wright. My style is not his style, but I am proud that he and I are pastors in the same denomination.
