The second gray Monday morning in a row at Foggygates. Still, as I sit at my desk surrounded by cats and books, I'm reminded that there are worse ways to start the week...
Yeah, see, now you think that the picture of the guy dealing with bats first thing in the morning is fiction, right?
What it isn't showing is how he has to clean up all the bat shit off his car when they've gone. Which is what I spent yesterday morning doing.
(I'm not kidding - the huge fig trees in front of my house attract fruit bats this time of year and they spend all night screeching and flapping and shitting. So not only do you get no sleep, you get front pavement + cars + roadside covered in crushed &/or excreted figs. And those bats seem to be able to shit ten times their bodyweight.
Reverend- I once lived in a house where the short driveway was just underneath a willow tree which "dripped" some sort of sweet sap all spring and summer, which got all over the car and attracted hordes of yellow jackets. Some evenings when we got a little buzzed we'd have contests swatting them with rolled up newspapers -I think my record was 40 or 50.
But your bat shit story has that beat by a mile! Pictures? We want pictures!
I don't think you were counting the minutes...you were counting the hits and runs scored off your ace, Schilling. 8 hits and 5 runs in four innings, I hear.
Well our Cy Young pitcher Webb didn't have a good day either but at least the Diamondbacks won their first game.
Catalyst- um, yes, well- 5 strikeouts, and five runs in four innings- 11.25 ERA. Curt wasn't locating anything. Hope he is not injured somehow. Curt, btw, has a blog.
On the good side, David Ortiz looked handsome cranking that RBI double in the first, and after giving up that gopher ball (fastball, right down the middle) on his first pitch, Okajima looked good in relief.
Sorry- Youk = Kevin Youklis, who after scoring in the first got thrown out trying to turn an error into a double and lost a bounder at first later in the game.

Oh, but tell me you woont wanna take just ONE swing wit that sword through a flock o bats!
Phoebe- I guess a picture is worth a thousand bats.
Catalyst- and the Red Sox start the season this afternoon. Seems more like Friday.
Joey- well, maybe just one...
That looks more like the end of the week for me. I try to start the week with a blank slate.
It may be monday, but it is OPENING DAY.
Good lord man.
I would battle a thousand flesh eating bats with wooden spoon today and come out victorious.
Today is the Beginning of the year.
It is chinese new year, passover, New Year's eve, and the 4th of July rolled into one.
TV
Mike- By Friday I just throw the sword down on the ground and tell the bats to go to it, I don't care anymore.
Thomas- 4 pm -Curt Schilling. I am counting the minutes. PLAY BALL!
