Fantasies-
This is a picture of Amy in the courtyard of the Museo Lapidario Scipione Maffei, just off the Piazza Bra in Verona, during our honeymoon trip to Italy in 2000. That was a great trip to Italy and the French side of Switzerland. It was just a few weeks before Bush won the election and we could still admit to being Americans, and folks liked us.
Verona is a wonderful tourist/working-class town, a lot like our own Boston. If I could live anywhere, after the Happy Valley, and Cambridge, and Manhattan, and Florence, Italy, it would be Verona. When we hit the lottery we will have apartments in all of them.
It's a question I love to ponder in bed at night- if you won the lottery and could have apartments anywhere in the world, where would you have them?

Actually, in fits of sheer fantasy I have pondered that question. I would have an apartment in Rome in the area Pat Conroy described in his book "Beach Music". Another would be somewhere close to the ocean in Ireland just for the beauty of some of the pictures I have seen. One really out of the way place would be on New Zealand's Chatham Island just because it is far away. And a house at Murrells Inlet or Pawleys Island just because it is home so I could do nothing but write and act like Mickey Spillane.
Interesting question.

I've never actually BEEN anywhere - my travels beyond New England and the Eastern Seaboard have been incredibly limited as to be laughable - but if I were to take places on spec, I'd go with Bermuda, Glasgow, Maui, and London. Oh, and perhaps somewhere on the Greek coast - the pictures I see of the white buildings against the sapphire sea always make me gasp.
