Catching Up-

Hey everyone, long time, no posts. It's taking a while for me to re-enter after our vacation. A few more of the family had arrived from far parts of the country, so I went back to the vacation house last Friday and we finally came home for good Sunday afternoon. It's about 165 miles each way to get to Falmouth, almost all of it on the Massachusetts Turnpike or interstate 495. So, in my last three trips in the past few weeks, that's about 500 miles of highway driving. I drove right around 65 mph the entire time, and during the entire 500 miles, I passed exactly three vehicles. The rest of the time everyone else was whizzing past me.

Including a 30-foot motorhome, while going uphill near Worcester.

I know that gas is now $4 a gallon, and where we were it's actually $4.86 a gallon, but after that highway experience I don't want to hear a fucking word from any of those people about how much it costs to fill up their tank. Tired of spending that much? Sell your damned SUV and slow the fuck down!

Wow, I knew that Ralph Nader lost all touch with reality some years ago, but who knew he was a raging crackpot borderline racist? Here's what Raging Ralphie had to say while slagging Obama for not being black enough yesterday-

"I mean, first of all, the number one thing that a black American politician aspiring to the presidency should be [doing] is to candidly describe the plight of the poor, especially in the inner cities and the rural areas"

Well thank you, Ralph, for maintaining that all-important "How to be Black" list, you Homeboy, you. And should Hispanic politicians all be worried about the escalating price of tortillas?

So, what do you think that lumberjack's first thought was when a bra appeared at the end of his log cable?

It's been about a week since George Carlin died, and everyone else has put up their own favorite clip, but here's just one more tit bit, one that captures it all for me-

I'm right there with you regarding the speeders. Our last road trip Mr. Pop was going the speed limit and we were getting passed like we were parked. Lots of people bitching about the cost of gas but they aren't helping themselves when they drive like there's no tomorrow.

As for Nader, I posted about him today too. WTF was he thinking? So he knows more about being a black person than a black person does? Okeedokee.

Hey, Ralph's Lebanese. That's not exactly a suburb, you know!

Nadas my nigga!

PoP: Ralph knows more than any of us, I guess.

Angryman: I'll chip in to buy Ralph a one-way ticket to Lebanon right now.

Joey: That's a great title for a You-Tube video!

I confess. I'm one of those who would have gone flying past you. Speed limits - speed minimums. I get them confused. (But I do it in a little Saturn that gets around 37-38 mpg, so I have no guilt about it.)

As for Ralph, let's just toss him in the back of a Corvair and be done with it.

Those angry SUV owners are just sore they can't sell their 50k monstrosity for more than 15k.

At least, not around here, in Southern California, where gas is right up in that 4.85-5.00 range.

Welcome back, Colonel.

I've been driving no faster than 55 for the past month or two and have noticed many fewer trips to the gas stations. Of course, I get tailgated a lot, especially on the 75 mph limited freeway, where most people drive 85 to 90 anyway.

Hey Goddammit. This is America. If we want to drive 90 miles an hour and bitch about gas prices we'll damn well do it.

Besides, if the prices get too high, we'll just invade some sand covered shit hole and take their friggin' oil.

What's that? We already did that?

Well shit. Why is gas so expensive then?

Oh. Record oil company profits. I see.

Well, carry on then.

Driving 55 on I495 in Mass. may be economical, but it's also suicidal. I'm amazed that you survived.

Phoebe: Once we get Ralph into the Corvair's trunk can we push it off a bridge?

Kaytie: I'm trying not to be endlessly amused that you can't give a used SUV away these days, and not succeeding.

Catalyst: 55? Around here that'll get you stopped by the state police for impeding traffic.

Mike: but remember, all the oil profits from that sand-covered shit hole are being used to finance the occupation and rebuild the country, so that the American taxpayer doesn't get stuck with the bill. um, right?

HungryMo: I was doing 65. If you do 55 on the MassPike you'll have an SUV in your backseat within five miles.

Tortillas are going up too????

I give up

Our main long haul car is a Honda CRV, a "small" SUV, and I had a serious case of the nerves about buying it when gas as 1.50$. I wanted a Civic but my wife pointed out we needed something to carry large loads. With gas 3.84$ in my area I'm very eager to buy a Toyoto Yaris or Honda Fit to replace the clunker, a Coralla, I drive to work. Trying to talk my wife into us getting rid of both the CRV and the Coralla at the same time.
Yeah, Ralph is really living on some other planet.

Holy crap that expensive on the cape? I was in Hyannis last week for work, and I got off at $4.04

Forrest Proper said...

Beach: The really scary thing is it may keep going up.

Malach: Gotta admit, that's the price on the Vineyard, not the Cape. I was headed to Falmouth to catch the ferry.

I say we all invest in bikes and start peddaling our little hearts out.
