I once raised baby ducklings in a (cleaned) fireplace.
Toby Kitty used to sit on the banisters like that. Until the day I heard a loud "thunk!" and went out to the living room to find Toby coming up the basement stairs with a dazed and confused expression. (He still managed to carry an air of "I meant to do that.")
