So, What's Up With That???

I know, long time, no blog, I'll be back soon!

But today one burning question- why does the Constitutional guarantee of separation of church and state only work one way? The churches get to avoid interference from the state (no taxes, not subject to many laws, employment laws, for instance), but the state isn't free from political interference from churches?

Annoyed minds want to know!

The reason that they are typically not taxed is so that they can carry out charitable programs. The theory is that w/o the tax breaks, the churches wouldn't be able to carry out charity which would put a huge burden on the state.
Given our refusal to carry out basic welfare programs, I have my doubts regarding the accuracy of that theory.
Also, I'll check with some employer attorneys about churches not being subject to federal employment laws. That would be horrible if true.

Oh, on a funny note, the only politician smart enough who had any power to want to tax churches was George Wallace. Bizarre, no?

Yeah, that really yanks my rosary! There are so many "churches" that should lose tax-exempt status. It's just crazy.

It goes back to the Roman Empire

The church needs to donate a skirt to that nun. Her knees must be freezing.

That nun could interfere with me anytime!!!
