A story in today's New York Times-
After news of President Lincoln's assassination reached New York, in all arteries and capillaries of the city, shopkeepers designed makeshift shrines to the martyred president. An anonymous diarist walked for miles, drawing sketches of as many storefronts as he could (evidence suggests, but does not confirm, that the diarist was a man). Through his relentless activity this nameless reporter made the news a bit more comprehensible. Here are selections from the diary entries.

OMG, I think I got laid on April 15 too! Isn't that crazy!?!
On a different note I find it surreal that the party of Lincoln, that saved the Union, is now the party that has the Texas governor talking about breaking it up.
The high pitch whine is coming from Lincoln's tomb is him spinning.
It was a sad time, even I was sad, and I seen a lot of sad thing in my 2451 years of life.
Damn you for having a reasonable president these days. Now I can't leave funny jokes at George W's expense.
April 15th was my grandmother's birthday.
I can honestly say that I never remember getting laid on that day though.
I mean, I must have, but I just don't remember it.
